Wangaratta Solar Farm

Location: Wangaratta VIC

Timeframe: Completion by August 2024

Overview

We’re upgrading Wangaratta’s electricity network to connect the future CleanPeak Energy Wangaratta Solar Farm.

This work will start on 18 March 2024 and be completed by August 2024 (subject to weather and permits).

For more information about the solar farm, visit the Clean Peak Energy website.

What does this project involve?

Our trusted delivery partner Ventia will carry out these upgrades which will include:

  • replacing approximately 20 power poles between the Wangaratta Zone Substation and the planned Wangaratta Solar Farm site
  • extending the 66kV line from the intersection of Bowser Road and Detour Road to the new solar farm
  • installing overhead and underground communications cables along the entire length of the line from the Wangaratta Zone Substation to the solar farm.

This work will allow the new Wangaratta Solar Farm to feed the energy it generates back into the electricity network.

What this means for you

Your power supply may be interrupted one or two times during this project. We will notify you in advance of any planned outages.

There will be traffic management in the area during the project period, to protect the safety of our crews and the community while we’re working. We will let you know in advance of any road closures and detours.

Works notification - 9 to 11 July

There will be disruptions to pedestrian paths and traffic on Ovens Street, Rowan Street and Reid Street for upcoming nightworks. We're installing underground telecommunications cables as part of our essential upgrades to connect CleanPeak Energy's future solar farm in Wangaratta.

From 9 to 11 July, 7pm - 6am this work will include:

  • excavation by open trenching and horizontal drilling
  • installing conduits
  • installing and laying underground cables
  • reinstating impacted areas.

There will be some noise from machinery and an increase in construction crews, vehicles and equipment. We will aim to minimise disruptions and have adequate signage for any detours and alternative pedestrian pathways.

Traffic management will be in place along Ovens Street, Rowan Street and Reid Street to safely guide vehicles and pedestrians through the work area.

The works will be carried out by Astelec Group, and they will be on site from 13 to 14 July between 7pm and 6am. We are carrying out these works at night to minimise the impact on local business and people in the area.

Please factor in extra travel time during this works period and take extra care when traveling through this area.
