Changes to our Solar, Battery and other generation connection process are here!

We’ve listened to your feedback and we’re working hard to streamline our processes! On 27 February 2020 AusNet Services changed the way you apply for and register solar, batteries and other generation. These changes also ensure we are aligned with AEMO’s new DER Register requirements.

AEMO’s new DER Register

The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is now managing a national register of distributed energy resources, known as the DER Register. From March 2020 AusNet Services must provide details to the register for all forms of small grid-connected generation and storage (up to 30MW where not a registered generator in the market).

The DER Register will give network businesses and AEMO visibility of where DER are connected to help in planning and operating the network as it transforms. Knowing the locations and specifications of all DER connected to the electricity grid is critical for sustaining a secure and reliable electricity supply for all Australians.

What does this mean for you?

In order to capture the required information, we have

  • Made changes to our existing online solar and battery Pre-Approval Tool
  • Introduced a new online tool to enter post installation details and upload the required post installation paperwork.

We then publish this information to the AEMO DER Register.

For any applications you submit from from 27 February 2020 onwards:

  • You no longer need to complete the manual EG form (these details will be captured via the online tool).
  • You still need to provide the EWR and CES forms to the customer’s Retailer, but you will no longer need to provide them with the EG form.

However there is a transition period to be aware of. For applications submitted prior to 27 February 2020, continue to complete the manual EG form as per current process, and provide the manual EG form, along with the EWR and CES forms, to the Retailer.

From June 2020 onwards there will no longer be a manual EG form.
