Public Lighting Application

What is a Public Lighting Connection?

If you are applying to install new streetlight(s), upgrade existing streetlight(s) or request the energy efficient lantern replacement program, this application is the right one for you. 
In order to complete this application, you must be a:

  • Local Council (Street Light installation in Minor/Council Manages roads),
  • VicRoads (Major Roads/Freeway lighting) or a
  • Developer who needs street lighting installed as part of the development project

Major roads means a primary or secondary road depicted by a black or red line in the current edition of the Melway street directory, or a road in the non-metropolitan area designated ‘M’, ‘A’ or ‘B’ by VicRoads. Minor or non-major road lamps means a lamp installed other than on a major road and includes lamps installed in parks.

You can select the Contestability option at the application stage and include the Accredited Service Provider (ASP) if you are intending to engage them for design purposes. If you are not ready to select your Accredited Service Provider at this stage, you will have an option to download a list of ASPs and advise your project manager after application submission. 
Note: Any design and construction contractors involved in such works must be accredited by AusNet Services. This accreditation recognises that they have been assessed to have the skills and the knowledge to carryout works on the AusNet Services network to our technical, quality and safety standards.

For an indicative price for a new connection, select the Preliminary Estimate option on the application.
Preliminary Estimates are indicative, meaning the price generated is an office-based assessment.
A Preliminary Estimate is valid for 30 days and has an upfront, non-refundable* fee.
*Note: Preliminary Estimate fees paid are not refundable, however, will be deducted from the cost of the electricity supply works if you proceed with the proposal.

For a fixed price for a new connection, select the Firm Offer option on the application.
Firm Offers are fixed, meaning the price generated is inclusive of the proposed works and contract. A Firm Offer is valid for 60 days and has an upfront, non-refundable* fee.
*Note: Firm Offer fees paid are not refundable, however, will be deducted from the cost of the electricity supply works if you proceed with the proposal.



Other important things to know

Negotiate a Supply point
You must negotiate an approved supply point before any works commence on your street lighting project. If a suitable supply point is not available, time delays for construction works may occur. 
Plans must be provided to us to register cable plans and made available to the general public via the Dial Before You Dig Service. 
Lighting Design (Calculation and Plans) 
All lighting designs should be completed by an accredited Lighting Designer. Please attach lighting design calculations and plans if required into this application form. 

Information on Proposed Plans
Please ensure your proposed plan includes the following information.

When searching for the relevant pole number, it is generally on a strip of plastic or aluminium attached to the pole at eye level and is between 4 and 6 digits in length. Providing us with a clear photograph of the pole numbers will ensure accuracy and avoid delays.

Submission of As-Built Plans for Approval
Upon completion of negotiation of a supply point and construction works, you need to submit your As-Built plans for approval and registration in our mapping systems. You may proceed with the connection process once your plans pass our requirement. 

Important: Before arranging connection with your energy retailer, final As-Built plans must be registered with AusNet Services and fees paid.

How long does it take to get connected?
The time frame to connect power is determined by several factors including our works schedule and activities such as surveying and obtaining necessary permits and approval from councils and other authorities. Indicative timeframes may be provided, however, a more specific timeframe will be provided once the extent of works and other arrangements are finalised.

What you need to know before getting started?

This application cannot be saved once you have started. It must be completed in one attempt. Please make sure you have all the below required information and time before starting this application.
  • Contact details of Yourself and/or Authorised Representative if applicable.
  • Address details of the property with the electrical requirement
  • Electronic copies of the:
    • Proposed Cable Plan
    • Proposed Development Plan
    • Photographs of AusNet Services pole number(s) (optional)
    • Photographs of the property/Location (optional)
  • Additional Information and Potential Hazards of the site location (Optional)
  • A payment will be required to submit the application. A choice of payment options will be available to you at this point.

  • Conduct an office based and/or site assessment
  • Provide you a Preliminary Estimate or Firm Offer
