Our apprentice and trainee programs will equip you with diverse experience across different areas of our business, and will provide valuable exposure to industry best practice. And along the way, you’ll be earning an income, and a qualification.

Who can apply?

AusNet Services is on the lookout for team members who:

  • display maturity and respect for team safety
  • hold a manual driver’s license (or are able to obtain one at the age of 18 years)

Some additional program requirements are listed below.

Apprentices

For entry into the apprentice program, we also require that you are currently involved in a trade-based course OR have a minimum year 11 pass.

Trainees

For entry into the trainee program, we also require that you:

  • have a minimum year 12 pass (and preferably a pass in maths and physics)
  • are willing to study and complete a Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualification.

Apprenticeships

On completing an apprenticeship, you’ll be awarded a Certificate III qualification in partnership with one of our accredited training providers. Our apprenticeships are completed over four years, with the exception of the ‘Electrician to Line Worker’ program, which is completed over two years.

Qualified apprentices go on to work as Line Workers on transmission or distribution powerlines or as Electrical Fitters on equipment in our zone substations. 

Or if further study is your thing, you may wish to progress to one of our traineeship programs.

Traineeships

Our traineeships are completed over four years and provide you with a Diploma or Advanced Diploma – a qualification that sits between an apprenticeship and an undergraduate degree. 

Once you have completed your traineeship, you can continue working in your area of qualification, or you may wish to continue studying and working at the same time.
